Resilience
Resilience explores the transformative potential of deadstock fabric and discarded denim, reimagined into a Victorian-inspired jacket that honours both structure and storytelling. Referencing the fitted silhouettes of 19th-century women's outerwear, the garments are intertwined with Art Nouveau motifs and delicate surface techniques using appliqué and smocking, echoing the fluid lines and stained-glass intricacy of the movement.
A palette of deep plums, rich greens, and soft whites evokes meanings of dignity, hope, and purity, while drawing from both historical suffragette colours and contemporary trend forecasts. The use of pre-existing materials speaks to sustainability and care, each retaining traces of its past life while being reshaped into something expressive and new.
Rooted in the female experience, the jacket becomes a symbol of femininity in all its complexity: vulnerability, strength, softness, and defiance. It reflects on current conversations around women’s rights and bodily autonomy, while celebrating craft, creativity, and the quiet power of reclaiming one’s narrative.
